I’m not gonna write a book review here, as there are plenty already available, but i will say it is a lovely book that has measured characters and an unusual plot and that i thoroughly recommend reading it.  I heard a movie is in the making (2012) to be directed by Ang Lee, I’m hoping it will be more Arthouse indie sort of film, as the story is very surreal.

I am currently reading The Family Law by Benjamin Law. I came across this book on Kamen’s coffee table, (his mum works in publishing/book industry, so she always gets books pre-release.) I haven’t heard anything about this book and didn’t think much of it, then the name Benjamin Law sounded soooo familiar. Benjamin Law is of course a senior contributor to Frankie magazine, and I love his writing, always hilarious and endearing.

This book is deathly hilarious! i find myself staying up till 2AM reading and cracking up with laughter as i relate to Benjamin’s embarrassing  moments, that i completely relate to as growing up part of a Chinese-Australian family. Alot of the scenarios Benjamin reminisces on are downright tragic – but something we’ve all been through, and the way he narrates with honesty and dry humour, you can’t help but laugh at yourself and take life a little less seriously.

A funny funny read that i reccomend!

i dont have a problem with NASA’s current logo, but i do agree it looks a bit dated, but it also suits those retro space posters!

The first thing we see in NASA’s previous logos is that perennial truth that what looks futuristic today looks passe tomorrow. And of course tomorrow comes faster today than it did yesterday. We also wanted to avoid anything that would be too techy—NASA isn’t about technology; it’s about using technology as a vehicle for doing and going and discovering. So we went with a fairly neutral typeface that won’t look immediately dated. But we also wanted to de-emphasize the name in the logo to create more of a symbol that would be universally understood. So we eclipse the name with a giant sphere, which could be Earth or any other planet. In this way, we don’t get rid of the “meatball”; it’s still there, you just don’t see it.

 Working on an illustration for this years Kinokuniya Digital Arts prize. I’m creating a picture of a girl with a bunny mask (having a change from girls with antlers haha), and it’s going to be very graphic in style, flat pastel colours (cotton candy pink, white, peach and beige with pale grey) and some typography and geometric elements.

i’m trying to decide  which sketch to go with, hmmm…

Anyway, my project concept is based on the book Slow Death by Rubber Duck: How the Toxic Chemistry of Everyday Life Affects Our Health. So l came up with the idea of creating an interactive science lab where the user can put everyday items through experiments and find out what sort of toxic substances it contains.

 for part 1 only the laser works. (I chose the most complicated one to do first) later, there will be a microscope, chemistry set and a computer to interact with too, and I will definitely fix up the main scene, it’s been put together very shabbily at the moment.
